Training in how to carry out The Wildlife Trust’s Shoresearch citizen science project. Find out more here. It will enable you to assist with ecological surveys of Somerset shores with the aid of Somerset Wildlife Trust staff and other local experts. A series of surveys are planned along the Somerset Coast in the 12 month period after this training. The session will start in the National Trust Café at Brean Down (upstairs) with an introduction at the Shoresearch protocol and some basic identification skills practice. This will be followed by putting the survey methods into practice on the seashore at Brean Down.
The café downstairs will be open to purchase tea/coffee, snacks and lunch or you can bring your own packed lunch/drinks. Bring appropriate warm and waterproof outdoor clothing and wellington boots. This training is suitable anyone over 16 years old, but younger children (8+) are welcome if accompanied by an adult. The fieldwork will involve walking down over muddy and slippery sections of the shore. If you have limited mobility contact Mark Ward by emailing for more information. Dogs are not allowed in the cafe but can join us on the beach if kept under strict control
