Somerset's Brilliant Coast

Wild Beach

Wild Beach

We believe that our coastline is a wonderful, natural learning resource to which every young person should have access. We work with schools in a variety of ways to help them connect to our coast.

Our Wild Beach programme helps children to connect to their local beach in creative, safe and fun ways. Wild Beach is like “Forest School”, but on the beach! We provide regular opportunities for small groups of children to visit the same beach over a half term. Our sessions brim with team-building opportunities and are a great way to develop children’s social and emotional needs, as well as learning about Somerset’s incredible coastline and wildlife.

Thank you for this opportunity! The children have all absolutely loved their time on the beach and have made memories as well as learning so much.

Get involved in 2021

Our sessions have been risk assessed to ensure that we are Covid-safe and are in line with government guidelines. We ensure regular hand washing, socially distanced activities and only work with one school bubble per block to reduce transmission between schools.

In the colder winter months we run in-school workshops (either virtually or face-to-face) and one-off beach visits focussed on nature-connection, marine plastic and beach cleans.

We currently have availability for schools in the Bridgwater and Burnham area until the end of 2021!

More ways we can help

There is also the opportunity for schools to sign up to our exciting new School Coastal Champion Award, to help schools to take steps to reduce waste, increase water quality and increase nature-connection.

Thank you for a fantastic experience where the children had the opportunity to explore, learn and have fun.

Letter from Ben, Wild Beach

A thank you letter from a student called Benjamin.

It reads:

"Wild Beach

I really enjoyed being on the beach and finding shells, stones and crabs. My favourite part was finding hermit crabs!

I am so happy that EDF funded the project of Wild Beach and Tilda was amazing!

Thank you, Benjamin"
