An exploration of some the amazing marine life to be found between the tides on Kilve Beach, led by marine experts Nigel Phillips (Somerset Wildlife Trust Living Seas Ambassador) and Dr Mark Ward (Somerset’s Brilliant Coast Project Manager). Discover the ecology and behaviour of some of the rocky shore species that are adapted to survive the many challenges of this harsh environment and learn how to tell your whelks from your winkles and your bladder wrack from your sea lettuce. This event is aimed at adults and older children, but Tilda Gibbs, Somerset’s Brilliant Coast Project Officer will be on hand to run a separate rock pool safari for those with younger children.
Wildlife Trust staff will give us a briefing on what to expect before we start. Wellington boots are recommended as we will be wading in rock pools and walking over slippery rocks and boulders. Bring appropriate clothing for protection from the weather (waterproofs and/or sun protection). Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Where: Kilve Beach Car Park, Sea Lane, TA5 1EG (Pay and display – note: ticket machine is by the Chantry Tea Gardens before you reach the car park)
