There is no escaping the reality that Somerset’s climate is rapidly changing in our lifetimes. We are experiencing its predicted effects that impact our health, our day to day living, the prices we pay for food and wildlife populations around us. The county is vulnerable to rising sea levels and river flooding on low-lying land, while more unpredictable weather patterns will increase surface water flooding and wildfire risk across all areas, including higher ground. These changes affect us, our homes, our gardens and our spaces for wildlife.

There are lots of ways we can act to adapt, making us better prepared for the changing climate.

We are in the middle of a climate and nature emergency, and the two are inextricably linked. Climate change is driving nature’s decline, and the loss of wildlife and wild places leaves us ill-equipped to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to change. One cannot be solved without the other.

Things have changed rapidly and dramatically. As we start to consider life after lockdown, we have a unique opportunity to reimagine society, and the Trust has a chance to influence this. We need your thoughts on what a different world could look like.
