About the event

Led by Vanessa Lloyd of our local marine surveying specialist group, Coastwise Somerset, this session will start with an introduction in the Creator Space at East Quay, Watchet (10am - 11.00am). This illustrated talk will cover the general biology and classification of sea mammals, species identification, conservation issues and recommended survey methodologies.

Participants can then take part in a  Sea Watch survey at Watchet Harbour from 11.30am – 1.30pm to put their skills into practice.

This training is supported by Somerset Wildlife Trust and the Somerset Environmental Group to help specialist groups train up and support more people to join up and to increase the overall level of species recording and monitoring in Somerset. Participants will be encouraged to use the survey skills learnt in this training either individually or by becoming part of Coastwise Somerset. Information on further survey dates and how to join up will be shared.

Note: Currently Coastwise Somerset does not have insurance cover to work with people under 18 years of age. They may attend this training but would not be able to take part in further surveys.
