Managing land for pollinators - in our communities, burial grounds and beyond!

Book
Please join us for an introduction to ways to support pollinators in our community spaces, burial grounds and on privately-owned wildlife sites. Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Pippa Rayner and Hannah Paddison will introduce the bees, butterflies and other species helping to pollinate our crops and orchards in Somerset, as well as the vital role they play in supporting the nature-rich sites we have left. We’ll cover how understanding the different lifecycles of pollinators, especially in relation to the changing seasons, is key to providing the habitats they need to feed, nest, shelter and hibernate each year, with plenty of time for questions and queries from attendees.

About the event

This event is open to all, but is also part of ongoing support for communities taking part in the Wilder Churches & Burial Grounds initiative, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year! Since 2021 over 100 communities across the county have been supporting nature in different ways in these special places, with new communities welcome to join in any time. We are hence delighted that a couple of willing ‘reps’ have agreed to share their experiences of recording and supporting pollinators in their local burial ground as part of the session, as well as to have Sara Emmett from the Diocese of Bath & Wells also on hand to help answer any burial-ground specific queries.

The event also aims to support anyone managing their own land primarily for nature – so if this is you – we hope you can join us on the night (and also encourage you to check out how to become a member of Somerset’s amazing Private and Community Nature Reserve Network!).
