Pippa Rayner
Wilder Churches online event - making space for nature in your churchyard
About the event
This event, aimed at anyone interested in managing churchyards with wildlife in mind, and is the first in a series of free ‘Wilder Churches’ online training sessions. Through this new partnership initiative we will support communities across Somerset as they get to know the wildlife of their local churchyard and work together to find ways to increase the value of these special places for wildlife.
To help nature recover, we need more people to take action for nature and we want to support them at each step along the way. Pippa Rayner, Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Engaging with Nature Coordinator, will introduce the initiative, why churchyards can be so important for wildlife and some of the ways people can take positive action for wildlife, whilst also benefitting the community. Communication and consultation will also be key, so Pippa will also suggest ways to get others in your community involved from the start.
David Maggs (Mission Team Leader and Diocesan Environment Officer) and Sara Emmett (Assistant Diocesan Environment Officer) from the Diocese of Bath and Wells Diocese, will also speak about why taking action for wildlife is important to the Diocese and be on hand to answer any questions.
Everyone is welcome, so please join us and start the journey to making your local church wilder…
