SeaWatch Training - Brean Down
Brean, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, TA8 2RS
About the event
The training on how to carry out coastal watches for dolphins and porpoises will be led Vanessa Lloyd of the Sea Watch Foundation. The session will start with an introduction at the National Trust's Brean Down cafe. This will include an illustrated talk on the general biology and classification of cetacean species, species identification, conservation issues and recommended survey methodology. This will be followed by a land watch at the end of Brean Down to put our skills into practice.
Know before you go
This event will involve a 30 minute walk from the café up to the end of Brean Down either up steep steps or along a long slope. It is unfortunately not ideal for people with reduced mobility.
What to bring
For the second part of the training will be sitting in one place for up to 2hrs. You will need plenty of warm and waterproof layers, hats, gloves and scarves and stout walking shoes. There are toilets and refreshments at the café.
