About the event
In this interactive online event, Dr Pippa Rayner - Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Wilder Engagement Coordinator – aims to help de-mystify and trouble-shoot the art of grassland management and restoration for nature! After a quick intro to the fundamentals of grasslands and ‘how they work’, the session will focus on discussing and (hopefully!) answering any specific queries you may have relating to grasslands that you own and/or manage.
Although this event is part of SWT’s ongoing support for members of Somerset’s Private and Community Nature Reserve Network, it is also open to anyone that manages land primarily for nature and that could be interested in joining the group.
Whilst Pippa cannot promise to have all the right answers, she has a research background in grassland ecology and lots of practical experience to share on restoring species-rich meadows in both rural and more urban settings. Attendees will also be encouraged (but not required!) to share their own experiences and help each other during an open discussion, including to support anyone encountering issues in their endeavours to manage grassland sites for nature.
We also ask and very much welcome anyone (including those unable to attend) to submit their questions ahead of the event (with photos if helpful!), for Pippa and the group to consider as part of the discussion, by email to: events@somersetwildlife.org
The event will take place on zoom and the link sent upon registration.
Places are free but any donations made as part of your booking will go towards SWT’s ongoing costs of supporting the PCNR Network.
We will also be running this session on 17th November 2025 to provide an opportunity to join us during the day/evening, hopefully providing a time that’s convenient for all. It will be the same session so you don’t have to attend both.
