Join us for a Big Wild walk this Autumn half term!

Register your interest today to take on the Big Wild Walk challenge for nature and climate this Autumn.

Help Somerset Wildlife Trust tackle the nature and climate emergency by challenging yourself to a Big Wild Walk this October half-term. We’re asking nature lovers to fundraise for Somerset Wildlife Trust (via The Wildlife Trusts), as we embark on our mission to protect at least 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030.

In honour of our 30 by 30 goal, we're challenging you to take on one of the following:

•    Walk 30km over the Big Wild Walk week
•    Walk 30km in three days
•    Walk 30km in one day
•    Or, the Hedgehog Challenge - walk 3km in one day or over the week!

Alternatively, you can create your own challenge.

Register your interest today by emailing fundraising@somersetwildlife.org

Hannah raised £417.50 for Somerset Wildlife Trust

“Hello, my name is Hannah Dixon and I am 8 years old. I walked 100 km in 30 days to raise money to save rare species such as hedgehogs, natterjack toads and the large blue butterfly which are native to Somerset. I enjoyed walking for nature and raised £417.50”

Further details

As this is a virtual challenge, you can complete it however you like, wherever you like. Invite the family to join in, set up a remote relay with friends or take the challenge yourself. Indoors or outdoors, front room, park or wood, treadmill or track – the choice is yours!

Every penny raised will help us achieve our vision for a wilder future. Together we can restore huge peatlands, create new wetlands, and plant new underwater seagrass meadows. We can create hedgehog highways, sow wildflowers for bees and transform cities into urban wildlife havens.

Nature has given us so much, it's now our turn to give back.

How your fundraising helps

Our natural world is in trouble - this is no secret. Wildlife is disappearing at an alarming rate and the threat of climate catastrophe is a constant worry. We live in a time of emergency.

There is still hope - we can tackle both of these critical issues.

The Wildlife Trusts are calling for at least 30% of our land and sea to be connected and protected for nature’s recovery by 2030. Making more space for nature to become abundant once again will give our struggling wildlife the chance to recover and also restore beautiful wild places - places that store carbon and help to tackle the climate crisis.

30% is the bare minimum that nature needs to start recovering but we are far short of this and need your help to turn things around here in Somerset.

We'll support you!

When you sign up for a Big Wild Walk, we’ll be here to support you from the moment you register, on the lead up to your challenge and after your walk, to help you reach your personal and fundraising goals. You'll also receive tips on the personal actions you can take to help tackle climate change, as well as our wonderful wildlife spotting guides to help you connect with the wildlife you find on your Big Wild Walk.
