Discover the fascinating geology of the Mendip Hills at a series of open days, talks and walks being held for Mendip Rocks!, which runs August 25 to October 12.
The Mendip Hills are a special landscape with a wide variety of rock types and wildlife habitats. Such diversity makes it one of the best areas in the country to appreciate the relationships between geology, landscape, cultural and natural history and Mendip Rocks! is a celebration of this.
Events include a rock and fossil roadshow, guided walks around our Black Rock and Long Wood Nature Reserves (ponies at Black Rock pictured) and a family fun day at Somerset Earth Science Centre. You could also get a taste of geological field work, learn about the wildlife of dry stone walls or go fossil collecting.
Mendip Rocks! is supported by the Mendip Hills AONB Sustainable Development Fund in collaboration with Wells & Mendip Museum and Somerset Wildlife Trust, as part of our work in the Mendip Hills Living Landscape.
