Welcome to the Polden Area Group.
We have a small committee that meets two or three times a year and would always be pleased if anyone in the area would like to join us. New ideas for subjects that we could cover are welcome from anyone coming to our walks and talks.
We charge £2 for attendance at the indoor meetings, which goes towards the cost of the hall and speakers and we provide refreshments. I do hope you can come and make new friends and expand your knowledge of the natural world at the same time.
PAT'S POND
Pat & Dennis Hill-Cottingham were volunteer reserve managers at Catcott North for decades. When Pat died, the Group thought that we would raise money for a suitable memorial. We talked to Dennis and he agreed that as Pat had been a school teacher and was an expert on water invertebrates, especially snails, a pond on an educational reserve would be highly appropriate.
Mark Blake readily agreed that Catcott Heath would be the choice and that the pond would be constructed with facilities for pond-dipping. The Greater Water Parsnip now being raised by Bristol Zoo & local schoolchildren (local to the Zoo!) will be planted there.
