National and International News 

We are in the International Decade on Biodiversity, as agreed by the United Nations.  Over the next ten years, countries around the world are taking action to save the variety of life on earth.  Our wellbeing is dependant on the health of our ecosystems.

Defra have published the Natural Environment White Paper, which sets out the Government's vision for the next 50 years.  New initiatives include Local Nature Partnerships, Nature Improvement Areas and biodiversity offsetting. The UK National Ecosystem Assessment has also been issued, which gives an overview of the state of play with UK BAP habitats and how biodiversity relates to 'Ecosystem Services'. The new England Biodiversity Strategy entitled Biodiversity 2020: A strategy for England's wildlife and ecosystem services has also been published.   This proposes a more interated large-scale approach to conservation on land and at sea.
