These are some of the events taking place to record and protect Somerset's wildlife:
Taunton Wildlife Week is taking place between the 24 and 29 May this year with a wealth of events being planned. Details will be posted here shortly.
Avalon 24, 24 hours of guided walks and recording wildlife across the Avalon Marshes nature reserves takes place this year on the 2nd June. Contact for more information.
The Keeping South Somerset Orchards Alive project are holding an orchard Bioblitz at Barrington Court on Friday 22 June and into the following morning. The challenge is to record all the plants and animals in the orchard with naturalists on hand to help.
Our annual event for the Biodiversity Partnership and Forum is being held jointly with the SERC Recorders Conference this year on Saturday 30th June at Edington Village Hall. Please book with Joy if you would like to attend .
The Blackdown Hills Big Bat Survey takes place on the 20 July, with a free training day being held on the 25th May.
The Big Beachwatch Weekend takes place over the 15 and 16 September. Watch out for events on a beach near you (or organise your own litter survey for the Marine Conservation Society.)
The annual event for the Biodiversity Partnership and Forum took place last year at Allerford Community Hall. Entitled Think Big for Biodiversity, the joint themes were ambitious scale conservation and involving the 'Big Society'. Summaries of the presentations are available.
Discovering the Wildlife of Dry Stone Walls at Chancellors Farm in the Mendip Hills took place on 11 September. For more information on what lives in our walls, check out the Field Boundaries (Dry Stone Walls) BAP.
Public "bioblitzes" for 24 hour intensive recording have taken place at various locations in Somerset. See photos of the hundreds of species found for yourself on the iSpot website.
