Hot spots for migrating birds

Migration is one of the natural world’s most mind-blowing events. With only the power of their muscles to draw upon, millions of creatures of all shapes and sizes set off on individual incredible journeys which may be many thousands of miles long.

Somerset is an important stop off point and destination for many species of migratory bird, including whimbrel, black tailed godwit and osprey, and one of the best places to see them is the Somerset Levels. Find out more about two of our reserves located on the Levels:

Catcott Nature Reserve

Westhay Nature Reserve

Catcott is one of the Britain’s best reserves for watching wintering waterfowl and waders.
