Untitled designHelp us provide safe havens for tens of thousands of wintering European birds this Christmas and secure vital homes for some of the UK’s most vulnerable breeding waders.  By making a donation during the Big Give Christmas Challenge you can help us raise important funds to maintain and improve the quality of some of our key wetland habitats – and what’s more – any donation you make will be matched!

Our wetland reserves, which sit within the internationally important Avalon Marshes area, at the heart of the Somerset Levels, are unique and special places that have been optimised over the years to offer rich habitats for thousands of overwintering birds every year - as well as ample feeding opportunities and perfect breeding conditions for resident wading bird populations; but we need your help to ensure this success continues.

This year we have been selected to take part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge - the biggest UK online match funding campaign which helps charities raise funds for good causes. This means we could potentially raise a game-changing £21,000 to ensure a safe future for some of Somerset’s most special resident and visiting birds.

If you make a donation between 28th November - 5th December your money will be matched by our generous pledgers - your donation will literally make DOUBLE THE DIFFERENCE to our most precious birds!

Britain’s breeding population of wading birds has collapsed in recent years due to habitat loss, and vulnerable species such as Snipe, Lapwing and Redshank have lost their crucial breeding grounds. With funds, we can continue to create secure conditions and feeding opportunities for breeding pairs and their young on our Somerset Reserves that will help strengthen and increase existing county populations, as well as offer safe refuge for those populations overwintering from Europe - alongside other annual winter visitors such as Teal, Wigeon, Pintail duck, Shoveller duck and Bewick's swan.
