Sea Watch October Survey - Clevedon "Porpoises and Poetry"
About the event
One of a monthly series of two hour surveys for porpoises, dolphins and other marine life being carried out along the Somerset and North Somerset Coast throughout this year and next year. Run in conjunction with Somerset Wildlife Trust's Somerset's Brilliant Coast Project and the Sea Watch Foundation. No previous knowledge or training is required as experts and ID guides will be available. A YouTube Somerset SeaWatch Training Video is available. It is useful (but not essential) to view this prior to attending your first survey.
Be Creative: We will also encourage you to use the opportunity, whilst sitting in this beautiful spot, to do some poetry, creative writing or even some sketching (entirely optional!).
COVID Safety: The event has been adapted and fully risk assessed in the light of ongoing COVID safety guidance. Spaces are limited and booking is essential.
Know before you go
This event is suitable for people with reduced mobility. However if the Pier is closed we will be walking to nearby Ladye Bay. We will contact you about the survey location nearer the time.
Wheelchair accessYES (dependent on access to Pier)
What to bring
If the Pier is open you will need £3 to pay for access to the pier. If it is not we will walk to nearby Ladye Bay. Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions. Bring snacks and something to drink too. You will be staying in one spot for several hours. You may also wish to bring a ‘sit mat’. There are toilets and a cafe and shop on the pier or in the town. A good pair of binoculars is highly recommended. Unfortunately, we are currently not able to lend you our own binoculars. You might also wish to bring a notebook or sketch book to do some creative work in + some pencils.
Please bring your own hand sanitiser. We intend to stay outdoors and socially distance throughout the survey, but please bring a mask if you wish to (optional).
