Join Team Wilder and take on Exmoor!

Sunday 23rd June 2024

Join Team Wilder and take on Exmoor at Somerset's most unique challenge
- there's nothing quite like it!

Our team of fundraisers will conquer intense natural obstacles, tough terrain, steep hills, a chilly wild swim and even a scramble through Exmoor's natural tunnel - all to raise vital funds for wildlife.

Part of the Exmoor Running & Walking Festival Organised by Channel Events, Man vs Moor is Exmoor's toughest challenge and takes place in some of the most remote parts of Exmoor National Park.

With three distances to choose from, 5k, 10k or the ultimate 10 miler, there is something for everyone - and now there's a 1.5km version for the kids!

Every penny raised from tackling the moor, will help Somerset Wildlife protect the county's wildlife and wild places.

Have you got what it takes to join Team Wilder and take on the moor?

The Classic

10km 'ish' (more like 7.5 miles)

You’ll introduce your legs and lungs with a scramble over the Pinkery Pinnacles and the technical Short Combe Stumble.  The Green Mile takes you from deep joy to deep bog before topping out near Chains Barrow.

Fast and flowing technical moorland running takes you to the downhill section know as the Hoaroak Hiatus – a steady section of good trail where you can absorb your stunning surroundings.

You’re Half Way! Exmoor’s breath-taking character is defined by the next section as you climb to Benjamy’s Ditch – views across the Bristol Channel and remote wilderness. The Ruckham Reaper takes your mind off it with a full body scramble back up onto the highest moor – and a ride on The Magic Carpet – before the Dash, Splash and Thrash across Pinkery Pond.

The Total Blackout obstacle takes you into the last section, Breakneck Combe, before the finish line comes into sight…

The Light

5km of fun!

This might be the light version on distance but it still packs a punch when it comes to fun!

This route still takes you through some of our classic natural obstacles; ‘Pinkery Pinnacles’, ‘Short Combe Stumble’, ‘Green Mile’, ‘Dash, Splash and Thrash’, Total Blackout and Breakneck Combe!

The Ultimate

The 10 Miler!

All of the awesome obstacles from the Classic but with a lap of the Light thrown in too! This means you’ll be doing the best obstacles twice!!

Mini

The Kids 1.5km!

This is a truly brilliant event to give your kids a unique taste of a bonkers outdoor challenge. You'll supervise from the bank as they swim approx 50m in (the very cold and deep!) Pinkery Pond, they will scramble through a natural tunnel, and you'll run alongside them on a short downhill trail back to the centre. They'll be in safe hands with the Exmoor Search and Rescue team right there at every stage.

The big question is - can you keep up with your kids?!

How your fundraising helps

Being part of Team Wilder is so much more than taking on Exmoor, it is your chance to save wildlife for the future, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.

It costs us almost £2,000 a day to manage all of our reserves, so every penny you raise will really help our wonderful wildlife here in Somerset.
