Coronavirus update: we’ve chosen to promote our challenges from August onwards and will be monitoring the situation closely. If events need to be postponed or cancelled, you will have the option to defer your place. Fundraising for wildlife is more important than ever in this time of uncertainty, so we urge you to sign up today to swim for wildlife.

Sunday 27th September 2020

This is your chance to swim for wildlife at the most beautiful lake in the heart of Exmoor.  Wimbleball Lake is not normally open for wild swimming so this is a very unique opportunity, and, you’ll be in with a chance to become King or Queen of the Moors!

The goal of the Exmoor Open Water Swim is to give everyone the opportunity to swim in this incredible lake. While there are medals for those who come in the top three for their age groups, the majority of swimmers will simply be challenging themselves to participate in a safe and friendly open water swimming environment, and there are three distances to choose from – 2km, 4km or the elite 6km

Somerset Wildlife Trust are lucky enough to have been selected as one of their Charity Partners for 2020, and have been given five FREE, guaranteed charity places.

Volunteers needed

If swimming isn't your thing but you'd like to be involved, we need your help! We're looking for volunteers to help on the day, from serving hot drinks to swimmers, to marshalling cars or pointing people in the right direction. The electric atmosphere and contagious adrenaline from the swimmers will make this a day of volunteering not to be forgotten.

To find out more about volunteering on the day, please contact kate.wilson@somersetwildlife.org

How your fundraising helps

Being part of Team Wild is so much more than running a marathon or hiking a mountain, it is your chance to save wildlife for the future, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.

It costs us almost £2,000 a day to manage all of our reserves, so every penny you raise will really help our wonderful wildlife here in Somerset.

£25

could pay for providing water for livestock grazing a 10 hectare grassland reserve for a whole year.

Livestock grazing - Ed Marshall

£50

could pay for 50 trees to help regeneration after conifer removal in bluebell woods

Roe deer at LOng Wood - Jeff Bevan

£250

could pay for tools for volunteers who help to manage woodlands, wetlands and meadows

Dormouse - James Maben

We'll support you!

A message from Kate, our Community and Events Fundraising Manager: “Somerset Wildlife Trust, like many other organisations is working within current Covid19 government guidelines. Many of our spring and summer events have been cancelled or postponed, so our apologies if you were looking forward to attending.   I will now be on furlough until such time I can continue the community fundraising programme at the level I would like and when we are all out the other side of the crisis.  But your sponsorship right now is more important than ever to help the Trust continue to protect our wildlife and wild places here in Somerset. If you have signed up to an event, please stay on board!  If you were thinking of taking on a Challenge, still enter and start training and fundraising.  Before too long we’ll be back and so will I to support you on the lead up to your challenge and after your big day, to help you reach your personal and fundraising goals."

When you join Team Wild, I’ll be here to support you from the moment you register, on the lead up to your challenge and after your big day, to help you reach your personal and fundraising goals.

You’ll receive:

Fundraising advice from Kate, our Community Fundraising Manager
A fundraising pack filled with top tips and ideas
A Team Wild t-shirt if you raise above £150
Regular updates on how your fundraising makes a difference

Run, walk, swim, ride, whatever you choose to do, join Team Wild and do it for wildlife!

I’m looking forward to welcoming you to the team and would love to hear from you.
