Where are we and what do we do?
Wells Area Group arranges talks, walks and activities throughout the year that help people to realise and value wildlife and nature in their communities.
They also hold activities for our younger members such as finding and identifying local fungi, plants, butterflies and reptiles.
Recent walks have included a search for adders on the Mendip Hills and a booming Bittern walk. Both events were well attended and it is encouraging to see such large groups with a wide spectrum of ages all so enthusiastic about nature.
The walks are led by one of the Wells Area Group members or someone with specialist knowledge. The group suggests a donation of £2 for adults for these events. Under 16s are free.
Each year the group visits a wildlife reserve or a conservation project outside our area. These have included Slimbridge Wetland Centre, The Red Kite Centre at Gigrin Farm, Axe Valley at Seaton and the Nagshead Reserve in the Forest of Dean.
Where do we meet?
Talks are held in Wells Museum on the last Tuesday of each month between September and March at 7.30pm (doors open 7.00pm). Admission is £3 for Somerset Wildlife Trust members and £3.50 non members. The talks cover a wide range of wildlife and conservation topics. There is disabled access and refreshments are served in the interval.
How can you help?
The Wells Area Group welcomes new committee members with fresh ideas to help us maintain an engaging programme of events! They also welcome new volunteers to help with Somerset Wildlife Trust practical conservation tasks in the area for those who would prefer to do practical work.
