Volunteering during COVID-19 - Update September 2020
In line with government advice, and to play our part in not spreading Covid-19, we have made significant changes to the way volunteering takes place at Somerset Wildlife Trust.
We are welcoming existing volunteers back as soon as it is safe to do so but there are many additional financial and practical constraints, so we are recruiting for a very limited number of roles at the moment. Whilst we are happy to take general enquires, please be aware that the majority of recruitment remains suspended.
The number of people who have contacted us interested in volunteering has been heart-warming, so thank you to everyone who is looking to support our work.
It’s good for my wellbeing… you get that sense of feeling good from being outside, but also feeling good from doing something that’s protecting the landscape that I love. It's giving something back, isn’t it, really?”
Volunteering with Somerset Wildlife Trust
All across Somerset people give us their spare minutes, hours and days on beaches, in meadows and woodlands, in communities, schools, homes and offices. Volunteering with us is a great way to use your skills and experience to make a difference for wildlife and wild places in Somerset.
Our volunteers carry out a huge range of tasks from species surveys to running Wildlife Watch groups, keeping things running in the office to practical habitat management on reserves. We depend on the support of our volunteers, who come from all walks of life, with a range of skills and experience, to help create a Somerset rich in wildlife for everyone.
We aim to make volunteering at Somerset Wildlife Trust a welcoming and rewarding experience. You'll receive the training and support you need, regular updates and we recognise our wonderful volunteers every year with our Volunteer Awards.
You can find out more about the practicalities of volunteering on our F.A.Q page, take a look at our current opportunities or make an enquiry by clicking ‘become a volunteer’ below.
You go home from a day like today and it’s just a nice feeling. There’s a lovely sense of satisfaction as wellSWT Volunteer
A great benefit is that you do meet a lot of interesting people that you wouldn’t otherwise ever have met and have a chat with them and you might find that you have a mutual interest - it’s nice to be sociable!SWT Volunteer
