Great White Egret - Graham Hall

Explore the wildlife of Somerset

Somerset has some of the most spectacular and internationally-recognised habitats and wildlife in the country. We have beautiful and rare creatures like the Large blue butterfly and the Eurasian bittern, important populations of Greater horseshoe bats and other incredible species such as Great white egrets, Red deer, Round-leaved sundew and magical murmurating Starlings.

We also have extremely important habitats such as internationally-renowned wetlands at Westhay Moor and Catcott Lows which are havens for wintering waders, dragonflies and damselflies, bittern and Marsh harriers. We also have magnificent meadows where rare arable plants can flourish, and beautiful ancient woodlands to explore.
