Surfers Against Sewage, Somerset Wildlife Trust and West Somerset Together are currently working together to get Minehead and West Somerset status as a Plastic Free Community. This successful and increasingly popular national scheme, run by Surfers Against Sewage, is not about removing all plastic from our lives, but about kicking our addiction to throwaway plastic and changing the system that produces it. We need to involve the whole community, including local groups, businesses, schools, local councils and individuals. The steering group is working on a community plan and has already run a series of beach cleans and worked with several businesses to help them become single-use plastics free. We now need more people to get involved. This meeting will explain what we have done so far and will ask for more volunteers to join us. We would love to talk to you and share ideas.
