Did you know we have a Volunteering Advisory Panel? It’s a small gathering of SWT volunteers and staff from around the county who get together to ensure there is a voice for SWT’s significant voluntary force. The Panel advises Council on policy and action relating to volunteering. The sorts of topics that come up include training, policy, communications, health and safety, and events. Indeed it was the Panel that helped get the go ahead for this newsletter!
More meetings? In a way, but we always meet in a pub so it’s much less formal than most people’s idea of a meeting! Eve Tigwell, who does the formal feedback to Council, chairs the Panel. If you are a volunteer for SWT and have a matter that you would like to have chewed over then please do not hesitate to let me or Eve know and we’ll add it to the agenda. Equally you may be keen to sit on the Panel yourself your views will be welcomed.
The current panel is made up of representatives from across the staff and volunteers. Here are a few of the things they do, and that’s just for the Trust!:
Dave Cottle () Chairman of the Somerset Bat Group, Volunteer Reserve Manager of King’s Castle Wood and long term supporter of the Trust.
Eve Tigwell () Chairman of the Trustees, Eve chairs this panel and is also a committee member of the East Mendip Area Group, an experienced surveyor and helps to lead the East Mendip Conservation Volunteers.
Helen Lawy () Helen is leader and organiser for Taunton Deane Area Group and provides invaluable support for new projects in the Taunton area.
Kevin Anderson () Volunteer Reserve Manager of Babcary Meadows and passionate advocate of Somerset Wildlife Trust
Toria Hare () Community & Volunteering Facilitator
Neil Watson () East Mendip Reserves Officer
Emma Koblizek Ecological Data Officer, sadly Emma is leaving us for pastures new but we hope to have another representative from Somerset Environmental Record Centre soon.
