Visit a local Orchard

Orchard - credit Ross Hoddinott

Following on from the success of the Keeping South Somerset Orchards Alive project, we are pleased to offer school visits to orchards in Somerset. Your visit would include activities which will give children an understanding of the biodiversity in traditional orchards.

Activities are linked to the national curriculum and can include minibeast hunts, plant and tree identification, habitat comparisons and lots of fun games. Visits usually last for half a day and are currently FREE of charge.

The orchards available for school visits are:

  • The Jacky Bird Orchard and Nature Reserve, Norton sub Hamdon
  • Playses Orchard Farm, Hambridge
  • Swains Orchard Local Nature Reserve, Wellington
