Living Landscapes

Long-eared owlSomerset Wildlife Trust's vision is to build a landscape rich in wildlife where people live happier, healthier lives.

Imagine a Somerset...

...where wildlife flourishes in countryside, villages and towns

...where children grow up inspired by the sights and sounds of nature

...where people live happier, healthier lives.

This is our vision for a Living Landscape

How do we do this?

In order to rebuild Living Landscapes across Somerset we will work with others to restore, recreate and reconnect our damaged countryside. This is essential to ensure wildlife is able to adapt in the face of dangerous climate change.

Somerset Wildlife Trust recognises that in order to conserve and enhance our species and habitats we need to think beyond the boundaries of our nature reserves. Wildlife cannot thrive in a box so we are working across landscapes with others to ensure species can move freely and survive well into the future. If we don't allow this then a collapse in biodiversity is inevitable.

As Sir David Attenborough says (vice president of The Wildlife Trust's) “We must now work on a landscape scale if we are to give wildlife a chance and allow future generations to enjoy nature as we have.”
