We have loads of great wildlife events for adults, kids and families in Somerset. Hopefully the list below will give you lots of ideas for things to do, and give you more information about the interesting and fun activities you can take part in. Take a look at what's on below.

Trouble finding your way?

Because some of our events and things to do are held in the wilds of Somerset they include a grid reference as a meeting point - post codes are too imprecise. To see the location for the activity on a map go to Street Map and type in the grid reference (e.g. ST456437 no spaces.) If you zoom out you will first see the OS Explorer and Landranger maps which have more detail and then larger scale maps. Go to Street Map now.

Tuesday 29 May

This Naturally Healthy Month join us at the coast to meet colourful crabs, amazing anemones and other critters living in Helwell Bay’s rockpools. All equipment will be provided and experts will be on hand to help you identify what you find.

During Naturally Healthy Month find out about the abundance of natural plants growing in the wayside and hedgerows; which can be used to aid well-being and treat many everyday ailments.

Wednesday 30 May

Join us for some practical conservation work and outdoor fun this Natrally Healthy Month. Come along and do infrastructure repair and maintenance around the farm well as dry stone walling repair along the boundary of the hay meadows.

Tuesday 5 June

Come and enjoy our beautiful Bishopswood Meadows nature reserve on this guided walk with Senior Reserve Manager David Northcote-Wright.

Set on a working farm, the meadows are an unusual mixture of lime-rich, neutral and acidic areas which support a wide range of species including many less common plants such as Fragrant Orchid and Meadow Saffron, as well as the more familiar Bluebell, Harebell, Betony, Greater and Lesser Knapweed.

Wednesday 6 June

Come along to the inspiring Henley Hill Farm to see Wildflower and Grass rich meadows and pastures with incredible views. The meadow has been studied by experts from Somerset Wildlife Trust who could not believe just how  many species of flora and fauna they found. Beautiful!

Friday 8 June

For the past 25 years Henry & Richard Lang have managed their 1,000 acre farm with wildlife in mind. Traditionally managed hedges, ponds, orchards, wildflower meadows, seeds for wildbirds, flowers for pollinators.

Saturday 9 June

Help get the thistles at Whatcombe Fields under control – many hands make light work! Come along for half an hour, half a day or however long you want – it’s great exercise and very rewarding. Gloves and motivational biscuits will be provided on this joint event with SOS Frome.

A perfect Summer activity! The West Mendip Watch club will be putting on their wellies and heading to Brean to explore the rock pools of Somerset’s beautiful coast.

Wednesday 13 June

A gentle walk from St Mary’s Church, Charlton Mackrell to Green Down to fnd summer migrants along the way. Binoculars recommended and a telescope will be brought. The walk starts and ends on a minor road without footpath and there is a steep section leading to the reserve.

Sharpen your nocturnal senses on a wildlife-rich, night-time ramble across the Mendip landscape with nature and astronomy expert and broadcaster Chris Sperring MBE, looking for owls, glow worms, nightjars and stars.

A walk round parts of the 4 meadows of unimproved, species-rich, neutral grassland. Green-winged Orchids, Adder's tongue fern, Oxe-eye daisies etc. Butterflies & bees if sunny.

Sunday 17 June

Model Farm shows how much nature can create a sanctuary within a decade. The owners have made a beautiful garden bursting with wildlife, a joy to spend time in.

Tuesday 19 June

This Avon Wildlife Trust reserve near Winscombe is the source of the Lox Yeo river. It is an area of damp neutral grassland that contains some uncommon plants including various orchid species.

Join us and the owners of the wonderful site for a wander around Eley's Fields Private Nature Reserve, at a time when the orchids and wildflowers are at their most spectacular.

Caroline has created a jewel for wildlife. Last year, a top Garden designer came to visit when she opened for Somerset Wildlife Trust and was absolutely full of praise! Combine your visit with a visit to Nunney castle.

John Bebbington intends to follow up his April talk by showing us the results of a survey of moths at Batty Piece nature reserve in Curry Rivel.

Learn to 'fly like a wild goose' and other simple Tai Chi movements in our stunning Edford Meadows Nature reserve. This relaxing form of gentle exercise is suitable for all ages and abilities, with instruction provided by Beth Woodburn from Tai Chi for Health

Sunday 8 July

Callow Bank is an area of limestone grassland above Cheddar Wood. SWT has undertaken signifcant scrub clearance in the area. The visit will take us up through the wood to the Bank which is above the Callow Rock Quarry.

Now in its ninth year, the British Wildlife Photography Awards highlights the great diversity and wealth of the country’s wildlife. The exhibition showcases the great diversity and wealth of the country’s wildlife and raises awareness of our natural habitats and including here in Somerset.We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Red Brick Building to bring this fantastic exhibition to Somerset again. There will be an events programme related to the exhibition, including a wildlife photography walk on 22nd August (details of all events will be available on the website in due course).

A return visit to Lower Chelmsine where David and Lindy Edmondson have developed a Private Nature Reserve with 10 acres of broadleaf
woodland, 5 acres of Hazel/Sweet Chestnut coppice and a most attractive garden and wildlife area. There is also a 400 yr old Linhay Barn. Refreshments for local charity.

Sunday 22 July

Visit this wonderful flower farm with posies to be made. The owner is a flower farmer! Using her beautiful blooms , she creates bouquets and arrangements for all occasions. Come and see how she has done this and create your own posy to take home.
