Our Events help Support vulnerable Wildlife

Help us protect Somerset’s Wildlife by Supporting us and our events. Support our events and you could help protect threated species in your local area such as the hedgehog, Otter, Water vole and Bats.

Supported by over 18,000 members, Somerset Wildlife Trust has been protecting vulnerable wildlife through its events and projects for over 50 years.

Sadly, we can only run a limited number of events. We need your help to run more events and get more of the community involved with wildlife.

Because some of our events and things to do are held in the wilds of Somerset they include a grid reference as a meeting point - post codes are too imprecise. To see the location for the activity on a map go to Street Map and type in the grid reference (e.g. ST456437 no spaces.) Tuesday 17 July - Saturday 25 August

Now in its ninth year, the British Wildlife Photography Awards highlights the great diversity and wealth of the country’s wildlife. The exhibition showcases the great diversity and wealth of the country’s wildlife and raises awareness of our natural habitats and including here in Somerset.We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Red Brick Building to bring this fantastic exhibition to Somerset again. There will be an events programme related to the exhibition, including a wildlife photography walk on 22nd August.

Sunday 22 July

Visit this wonderful flower farm with posies to be made. The owner is a flower farmer! Using her beautiful blooms , she creates bouquets and arrangements for all occasions. Come and see how she has done this and create your own posy to take home.

An inspiring, peaceful wildlife garden full of bumbleebees, butterflies and bird song. After your visit, treat yourself to a beautiful cottage garden plant from the nursery

Saturday 28 July

Come and join us for an exciting chance to get our wellies on and investigate some of animals that call our rivers home. We will be going to Hemyock in the beautiful Blackdown Hills (about a 20min drive from Taunton) to search the River Culm for cool crustaceans including crayfish (think freshwater lobsters!), signs of otters and lots of minibeasts that live under the stones in the river. We will be joined by the Blackdown Hills Crayfish Project Manager who will guide us around.

Sunday 29 July

Come and join us for a short introductory course to mindfulness in Longrun Meadow. Participants can either sign up for all five sessions or book on to individual sessions. We will be doing gentle mindful movement and mindfulness practices aimed at helping us to be present in the moment and to connect with nature.

Friday 10 August

Come along and celebrate National Marine Week. Meet colourful crabs, amazing anemones and other critters living in the rockpools at Helwell Bay. All equipment will be provided and experts will be on hand to help you identify what you find. . Please wear wellies and bring weather appropriate gear and water to drink

Discover the 'small wonders' (including insects, galls, fungi, lichens, mosses and ferns) that local wildlife enthusiasts Veryan and Andy Conn will share with you in Coleford's meadows and woodlands.

Tuesday 21 August

A walk around the Bishops Palace Moat in Wells with local bat expert Dave Cottle and members of the Somerset Bat Group. Learn how to use a bat detector to identify different species, and fascinating facts about bats.
