Gadds Valley (also called Happy Valley) is between Kingston St Mary and Hestercombe House and was designated as a Local Nature Reserve in September 2010.
A mosaic of habitats from woodland through to open grassland, a quarry and a stream with marginal vegetation can be explored from a permissive path. Directions and more information can be found here. The owners, the Crown Estate and Taunton Deane Borough Council are keen for the local community to get to know the site.
Brambles and scrub are currently choking the stream and grassland, so Taunton Midweek Conservation Volunteers are helping to control them. This spring, you can join BTCV on Wednesday the 6th April to continue caring for the site. Bat and other wildlife surveys could be carried out during the summer. If you are interested in finding out how to get involved, please contact Alison Slade 01823 652409.
