Volunteering

Volunteers are essential to the work of the Somerset Wildlife Trust.

Vol Conference Wordle

These are just some of the words members of staff use when talking about SWT's volunteers!

Why volunteer? Here's what some of our volunteers say:

"I feel I'm using my skills"

"I've always been a countryside person, and I love being among the flowers and the butterflies, though I'm not a specialist"

"It's important to help, it makes you feel good about yourself. And I'm learning about new things"

"Companionship, being outdoors, enjoyment of wildlife, and being practical"

"I love sharing wildlife with youngsters, and I like being appreciated"

"I feel passionate about the landscape, the use of land, and how food and wildlife link together. I couldn't just sit back and do nothing"

"I can see I've achieved something."

Whether you have a depth of specialist knowledge or are just passionate about nature, we would like to hear from you.

There are lots of different opportunities to volunteer with us including:

  • Helping out in the office
  • Getting stuck in as a Practical Conservation Volunteer
  • Volunteering to run a Wildlife Watch group
  • Assisting with surveys

If you have other skills and experience you think we could use, or if you would like to volunteer on a particular project, please get in touch using the enquiry form.
