Somerset Pride, the corporate membership campaign developed by Somerset Wildlife Trust in partnership with the Somerset Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to announce a new member.
EDF Energy has become a platinum level member of the campaign which enables businesses of all shapes and sizes to demonstrate their pride in the county by supporting projects that deliver a positive environmental impact.
Somerset Wildlife Trust is the county’s leading environmental charity, managing 80 nature reserves across the county. The Trust works with land owners, volunteers and young people as part of its Living Landscape projects to create an environment rich in wildlife for everyone.
EDF Energy, operators of Hinkley Point B power station in Somerset, is also proposing to build a new nuclear power station next to the existing site, capable of providing low carbon electricity to around five million homes. Nick Wall, Strategic Outage Manager and keen ornithologist, said: “It is really encouraging to see businesses and Somerset Wildlife Trust working together to support our local environment. Sustainability is a key commitment of EDF Energy and this is one very practical way we can support that goal locally.”
Corporate membership to the Somerset Pride campaign does not prevent the Trust from challenging the actions of supporting companies and we are fully engaged with the consultation process taking place at Hinkley Point.
