Somerset Wildlife Trust has launched a new campaign to highlight how leaving a Gift in Your Will can help protect local wildlife and preserve wild places.
The campaign, Will for Wildlife Week, which takes place October 18 to 22, is being backed by a number of local solicitors and will writers who are offering discounted will writing rates. Generous discounts of up to 50 per cent are available.
Charitable donations in wills are the foundation of many of the UK’s charities, creating nearly £2 billion each year, the equivalent of 25 Comic Reliefs. Without this income most charities’ services would suffer; others would simply not exist.
How you can help
Laura Lockwood, Legacy Officer at Somerset Wildlife Trust, said: ”Many people may not consider supporting their favourite charity in this way. However, once you have looked after your loved ones, a gift in your will to Somerset Wildlife Trust can help protect our precious wildlife and beautiful countryside for generations to come.”
Currently only seven per cent of people in the UK leave a gift to charity in their will but these legacies can make a huge difference. Somerset Wiildlife Trust is investing its legacy gifts in conserving and improving its 80 nature reserve and growing its Living Landscape projects so wildlife thrives across the Somerset countryside. These gifts are also providing a boost for important education work in local school and with families.
