Wetland Ecologist

£24,728 per annum

Full time role on a fixed term contract for one year, based in Taunton, Somerset

Somerset Wildlife Trust is seeking an exceptional individual for this exciting role within the Trust. The role exists to plan, coordinate and carry out a study of the wetland and aquatic ecological networks on the Somerset Levels and Moors using European eels (Anguilla anguilla) as a focal species.

You will have proven experience working with nature conservation organisations and a background in habitat surveying, habitat mapping and the collation of multiple datasets. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience of wetland systems and knowledge of fish ecology.

You will have the ability to design and carry out a study of the water networks on the Somerset Levels and Moors that will identify barriers to the escapement of European eels and the key migratory routes from the Avalon Marshes Nature Reserves to the Severn Estuary. You will take a consistent, scientific approach to data management and mapping, using your experience in GIS, and work closely with team members to produce new interpretation material. Experience of working with landowners and farmers will be important.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled individual, who will be a passionate and effective champion for the change that nature needs. You will be innovative, resilient and self-motivated – a solution seeker. It is a fantastic opportunity for a highly capable and motivated individual.
