West Somerset

The area covered by West Somerset Area Group includes most of Exmoor National Park, the Quantocks and the valley between them, plus the coastal plain as far as Hinkley Point.

The area has to be one of the most species-rich in the UK with magnificant landscapes, picture postcard villages, the northern exposure of the geology of the Jurassic Coast, unpolluted air and crystal clear hill streams.

There are five species of deer, wild boar, birds of prey galore, lowland coastal heath, almost every species of bat and orchid and marine life of international importance. 

Outdoor events

The group co-ordinates and supports the activities of West Somerset Conservation Volunteers, has a Conservation Advisory Panel and a Wildlife Watch group in Nettlecombe. In addition to running a lively programme of talks and outdoor events, the group liaises with other wildlife orientated bodies in the area to pool knowledge and resources.
The group takes its 'roadshow' to local events to promote the work of SWT. Members are involved in a range of surveys and in supporting the Biodiversity Action Plan for West Somerset. Whatever your interest and whether or not you want to be actively involved, there is a warm welcome awaiting you in West Somerset.
