Protect Our Seas

 18th Aug 2010

The wildlife in our wonderful seas has for too long been without any real protection and decades of neglect have left the marine environment damaged and degraded.

At long last we have legislation to protect our seas: the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 enabling the designation of Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs) to stop or restrict harmful activities.

Living Seas Launch

With the birth of this legislation, The Wildlife Trusts launched their Living Seas Campaign to ensure marine wildlife thrives, from the depths of the ocean to the coastal shallows.

How You Can Help

Somerset Wildlife Trust is part of the Finding Sanctuary project identifying local areas in need of protection. You can help shape these Marine Conservation Zones by adding infomation about how and where you use the sea to this interactive map. The deadline is the end of September so don't delay.
