Your guide to volunteering

Volunteers are the life-blood of the Somerset Wildlife Trust, which could not function without their time, their enthusiasm and their loyalty.  Volunteers may join with a depth of specialist knowledge or none; there is a role for everyone.

Why volunteer?

Here's what some of our volunteers say:

"Having the sense of a job well done, in the service of the habitat."

"I like the practical side."

"I feel I'm using my skills."

"Being with nice people."

"I've always been a countryside person, and I love being among the flowers and the butterflies, though I'm not a specialist."

"By being involved, you really get to grips with the subject."

"It fills a gap, it's very interesting."

"It's important to help, it makes you feel good about yourself. And I'm learning about new things."

"Companionship, being outdoors, enjoyment of wildlife, and being practical."

"I love sharing wildlife with youngsters, and I like being appreciated."

"I feel passionate about the landscape, the use of land, and how food and wildlife link together. I couldn't just sit back and do nothing."

"You see you've achieved something."

We asked members of staff to say a few words about SWT's volunteers.  The larger the word, the more it was mentioned:
