Somerset Wildlife Trust are carrying out the first comprehensive biotope survey to record and map the intertidal habitats found along the Somerset Coast from Brean Down to Glenthorne. These habitats are diverse with wave cut platforms, honeycomb worm reef, shingle, and expanses of sand and mud. This survey will help Somerset Wildlife Trust and other local partners to protect and secure a sustainable future for Somerset’s diverse and dynamic coastline.
Field surveys began in April 2017 and through to October saw Somerset Wildlife Trust’s Coastal Survey Officer out on the shore with the help of a fantastic group of volunteers. We are always looking for more enthusiastic volunteers to assist with our intertidal surveys, which will continue along the Somerset coast during 2018 focussing on the stretch of coast from Brean Down to Minehead.
